Just a few weeks after 20th Century Fox set a July 15, 2016 release date for the comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Variety reports that Zac Efron has signed on to star. The story centers on two brothers who place an online ad to find dates for an upcoming wedding, which goes viral. The studio and producers at Chernin Entertainment are now seeking an actor to play Zac Efron's brother, hoping for results similar to the 2013 surprise hit The Heat, which paired Sandra Bullock with Melissa McCarthy.

Jake Szymanski (He's F***ing Perfect, Funny or Die Presents) is directing from a screenplay by Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O'Brien, who wrote last year's comedy hit Neighbors starring Zac Efron. Chernin Entertainment's Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and David Ready are producing alongside Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies). No production schedule was given at this time.

Zac Efron recently wrapped production on Working Title's We Are Your Friends, and he is also set to star in Lionsgate's R-rated comedy Dirty Grandpa, alongside Robert De Niro. Zac Efron's Neighbors grossed over $150 million during its theatrical run last summer.
