The much-anticipated second season of Netflix and director David Fincher's hit serial killer drama Mindhunter is all set to be unleashed on the streaming service next month. And today we have the first teaser trailer for the new season, starring Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany for you guys to check out.

The teaser wisely kicks off by giving us more of season one breakout Cameron Britton as the gigantic yet surprisingly gentle serial killer Ed Kemper. It also graciously gives us glorious looks at Damon Herriman as Charles Manson as well as David Berkowitz AKA Son of Sam. But the real horror of this first look at the new season comes by way of the plot. A plot which seems to be season one heroes Holden Ford and Bill Tench hunting the BTK killer AKA Dennis Rader. And, no spoilers or anything, but history tells us they don't get their man. Until years and years later, that is. I wonder how much of a toll this will take on our heroes this time around?

And this makes sense considering the first season of the show heavily featured a "pre-serial killer" Dennis Rader going about his daily life. In fact, the quick, ominous glimpses of a rising Rader were what I consider to be the creepiest parts of the thoroughly chilling first season. That or Ed Kemper talking about what he does with severed heads. That was pretty gnarly as well.

On top of the hunt for the BTK killer, this new season is also said to focus on the Atlanta child murders that occurred back in 1979-81. I'm not too familiar with these killings, and so I think I will put off researching them in the name of being able to binge-watch the new season without, you know, knowing what's going to happen the whole time. I suggest you do the same.

For those of you that might not know, the first season of this Netflix original followed FBI agents Ford and Tench as they pioneer the development of modern serial-killer profiling. They did this by picking the brains of serial killers that were already locked up behind bars, such as the above-mentioned Ed Kemper along with the likes of Richard Speck and Jerry Brudos. Thus I think we can expect this second season to fall mostly in-line with that plot rundown. But with an all-new set of savage serial killers to lend a murderous hand.

David Fincher (Fight Club, Seven) will be taking the helm of two of this season's eight episodes with Andrew Dominik and Carl Franklin sitting in the director's chair for the other episodes. All eight episodes of Mindhunter season two will be hitting Netflix on August 16, 2019. Until then you can always go ahead and check out the stellar first season on the streaming giant today. Meanwhile, this first teaser for the second season of Netflix's Mindhunter comes to us from the streaming service's official YouTube channel.
