Universal Pictures announced today that its Despicable Me spin-off Minions has been pushed from its December 19, 2014 release date to July 10, 2015. There are no other movies currently slated for release on that date, but it comes between Independence Day 2 on July 3, 2015 (which will likely move to the summer of 2016) and the highly-anticipated Batman Vs. Superman on July 17, 2015.

Sandra Bullock and Jon Hamm have signed on to voice the villain Scarlett Overkill and her husband Herb Overkill, who encounter the Minions at a villain conference in the 1960s, long before they ever met Gru. Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda are directing this animated spin-off from a screenplay by Brian Lynch.

In related news, the studio has also pushed its Untitled Illumination Entertainment Project from July 3, 2015 to February 12, 2016. No story details have been given for this project, which is being produced by Christopher Meledandri.
