Fear of having to compete with the long gestating CGI film Avatar, which is being directed by James Cameron, has forced DreamWorks to move its own 3-D animated feature Monsters vs. Aliens around on the schedule. According to Variety, the film will now open on May 15th, 2009. It was originally scheduled to open on May 22nd.

Monsters vs. Aliens is a remake of a 1950s flick of the same name. It is currently being worked on at this moment. Shrek 2 director Conrad Vernon is co-directed the project with Rob Letterman, the man behind DreamWorks' Shark Tale.

Monsters vs. Aliens will be the first DreamWorks film shot in digital 3-D.
