Columbia Pictures' announced that All the King's Men will be released nationally on September 22, 2006.

Based on Robert Penn Warren's 1946 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, All the King's Men is a classic of American literature that tells the story of an idealistic man of the people who soon becomes corrupted by success and caught between dreams of service and an insatiable lust for power.

Sony Moves Sean Penn's ‘All the King's Men’

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures is postponing the release of All the King's Men -- in which Sean Penn will take on the role of fictional Southern politician Willie Stark under the direction of Steve Zaillian -- from December 16 until next year.

The film, which Sony had intended to push for Oscar consideration, does not have a new release date, but Jeff Blake, Sony chairman of worldwide marketing and distribution, said the film will be teed up next year at a date appropriate for awards consideration.

All the King's Men: Production has begun on location in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Columbia Pictures' All the King's Men, based on Robert Penn Warren's 1946 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, a classic of American literature that examines the spectacular rise and fall of a charismatic Southern demagogue, it was announced today by writer/director Steven Zaillian and producers Mike Medavoy, Arnold W. Messer and Ken Lemberger.
