Ross Bagdasarian, Jr. created America's favorite singing chipmunks, Alvin and the Chipmunks to be exact, in 1958 when he discovered that if he sped up his musical recordings the high-pitch voices would sound like singing chipmunks, thus the Chipmunks were born. Since then, the furry musical group have had hit songs, popular TV shows, a blockbuster live-action/CGI film and have even earned a Grammy. Now the trio has returned for a "Squeakquel" to their 2007 hit Alvin and the Chipmunks, which went on to make over $300 million worldwide, entitled Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, opening in theaters on December 23rd. Not only will the film mark the cinematic return of the brothers Chipmunk but will also introduce to the big screen for the very first time their famous female counterparts, the Chipettes.
