Anchor Bay Entertainment and The Weinstein Company announced today the Blu-ray combo pack, Blu-ray and DVD release of August: Osage County starring Meryl Streep, nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy and Julia Roberts for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for their roles in August: Osage County. Most recently, the film received two Academy Award nominations including Meryl Streep for Best Actress and Julia Roberts for Best Supporting Actress.

George Clooney to Produce ‘August: Osage County’

The Weinstein Company announced today that George Clooney, Academy Award-winning actor (Syriana) and Academy Award-nominated filmmaker (Good Night, And Good Luck., The Ides of March), and Academy Award-nominated producer/screenwriter Grant Heslov (Good Night, And Good Luck., The Ides of March) have signed on as producers of August: Osage County, the upcoming screen adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play by Tracy Letts. Academy Award winners Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts star as mother and daughter in the film, directed by John Wells from Letts' screen adaptation. Clooney and Heslov join producers Steve Traxler and Jean Doumanian. The announcement was made by TWC Co-Chairmen Harvey and Bob Weinstein.

August: Osage County tells the dark, hilarious and deeply touching story of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose lives have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Midwest house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them. Letts' play made its Broadway debut in December 2007 after premiering at Chicago's legendary Steppenwolf Theatre earlier that year. It continued with a successful international run.

Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep Circling ‘August: Osage County’

Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep are both in negotiations to star in August: Osage County for The Weinstein Company, according to Deadline New York.

John Wells is directing the new movie from a script by Tracy Letts, who adapted her own Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning play of the same name. Meryl Streep will play the drug-addicted mother of the Weston family, Violet, with Julia Roberts portraying her oldest daughter, Barbara Fordham. When Violet's husband goes missing, Barbara returns home with her two sisters to comfort their mother. While they're at home, numerous family secrets are revealed. Barbara is also going through her own issues, with her husband having an affair with a college student.
