Inspired by a chilling true story, Compliance explores just how far one might go to obey a figure of authority. On a particularly busy day at the local ChickWich, the fast food joint's high-strung manager Sandra (Dowd) receives a phone call from a police officer saying her employee Becky (Walker) has stolen money from a customer. Convinced she's only doing what's right, Sandra commences the investigation, following step-by-step instructions from the officer at the other end of the line, no matter how invasive they become.
One of the biggest buzz-worthy titles to come out of the Sundance Film Festival in January was director Craig Zobel's Compliance. This gripping drama is based on a true story, although most will be shocked by that aspect once the full tale unfolds. The plot centers on Becky (Dreama Walker), a young employee at a Chickwich fast food restaurant whose life gets upended by a single phone call. The store manager Sandra (Ann Dowd) receives a call from an "Officer Daniels" (Pat Healy), who accuses Becky of stealing money from a customer. Sandra keeps following the officer's orders to a T, despite how bizarre and unethical they are, in this tale that offers a haunting look at society's response to authority. I recently sat down with Dreama Walker and Pat Healy to discuss this critically-acclaimed drama, opening in New York City August 17th (CLICK HERE for the list of cities it will expand to in the coming weeks). Take a look at our exclusive video interview to see what they had to say.
Compliance was released August 17th, 2012.Read More
Magnolia Pictures has released the first trailer and poster for Compliance, the Sundance sensation from director Craig Zobel. Don't Trust the B---- In Apartment 23 star Dreama Walker plays Becky, a fast food worker whose minimum wage world is rocked when she is accused of stealing money from a customer. Take a look at the first footage from this indie, along with the 1-sheet.
Becky and Sandra aren't the best of friends. Sandra is a middle-aged manager at a fast-food restaurant; Becky is a teenaged counter girl who really needs the job. One stressful day (too many customers and too little bacon), a police officer calls, accusing Becky of stealing money from a customer's purse, which she vehemently denies. Sandra, overwhelmed by her managerial responsibilities, complies with the officer's orders to detain Becky. This choice begins a nightmare that tragically blurs the lines between expedience and prudence, legality and reason.Read More
