The disappearance of a magical jade sword spurs a breathtaking quest for the missing treasure. Li (Chow Yun-Fat) is embittered by the loss of his jade sword, and his unrequited pursuit of Yu (Michelle Yeoh) is further complicated by the mysterious intrusion of an assassin. The identity of the assassin is gradually unveiled as another poignant tale of love begins to ravel with that of Li and Yu against the backdrop of Western China's magnificent landscape.

‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ Sequel Shoots This May; Ronny Yu in Talks to Direct

It isn't immediately clear which Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon stars, if any, will reprise their roles for this follow-up. Director Ang Lee will not be a part of the project. The script is based on Silver Vase, Iron Knight, the fifth book in the Crane-Iron Pentalogy by Wang Du Lu. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was based on the fourth book in that series. Silver Vase, Iron Knight follows the Yu Shu Lien character portrayed by Michelle Yeoh in the original.

Harvey Weinstein is producing, with casting to begin in the near future.

Weinsteins Pick Up ‘Crane: Iron Pentalogy’ Rights

The Weinstein Co. have picked up the five novels behind Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and have plans to bring the Oscar-winning film to life in the theater.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that they have acquired the worldwide rights to Crane -- Iron Pentalogy, a series of five martial arts novels written by Wang Du Lu. They include Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon the fourth novel in the group but the first of them planned for theatrical productions. The others include Crane Frightens KunLun, Precious Sword Golden HairpinSword Spirit Pearl Light and Iron Knight Silver Vase.
