Even before Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was released in theaters, a third movie was being planned as 20th Century Fox promised to present Caesar's story as a trilogy. Fresh off his success with Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which has already earned more than $370 million worldwide, filmmaker Matt Reeves has signed a three-year production deal with 20th Century Fox.
The director has already signed on to direct the sequel Planet of the Apes 3, which he is co-writing with Mark Bomback. The studio has already issued a July 29, 2016 release date for the follow-up, which will likely feature the return of Andy Serkis as Caesar, although no cast members have been confirmed yet.Read More
Not to bring any spoilers to the table in its second weekend of release, but Dawn of the Planet of the Apes does feature a proper ending. We know where this series is eventually headed, a spoiler revealed in the 1968 original. Many fans have been speculating that we'll get to the iconic character Colonel George Taylor, personified by the late Charlton Heston , sooner than later. But that may not be the case.
