BOX OFFICE BEAT DOWN: Clint Eastwood Drives His ‘Gran Torino’ Into First Place with $29 Million

Box office competition will be fierce next week as My Bloody Valentine 3-D, Notorious, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Hotel for Dogs, and Chandni Chowk to China all open against each other in wide release. Not to mention Defiance will be getting distributed to more theaters. My money is on the security guard.

Paramount Pictures 2009 Sneak Preview

Paramount Pictures has released their slate of 2009 movie releases including Hotel for Dogs, Defiance, The Uninvited, Dance Flick, I Love You, Man, Monsters vs. Aliens, The Soloist, The Goods: The Don Ready Story, Star Trek and Imagine That.

Based on Kim Jee-Woon's 2003 Korean horror film, "Changhwa Hongryon," The Uninvited revolves around Anna (Emily Browning), who returns home after spending time in the hospital following the tragic death of her mother. Her recovery suffers a setback when she discovers her father (David Strathairn) has become engaged to her mother's former nurse, Rachel (Elizabeth Banks). That night, Anna is visited by her mother's ghost, who warns her of Rachel's intentions. Together, Anna and her sister (Arielle Kebbel) try to convince their father that his current fiancée is not who she pretends to be, and what should have been a happy family reunion becomes a lethal battle of wills between stepdaughters and stepmother.

Paramount Pushes ‘The Soloist’ and ‘Defiance’ to 2009

Paramount is rolling the dice with the Oscar chances of at least one of its films. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount has shifted its release date of The Soloist from its November 21 release date to March 13, 2009.

The move would negate the chances of award consideration for the film, which stars Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Foxx. It wasn't said if the studio would grant the film a late-December Oscar-quaifying limited run as of yet. Trailers for the film have already been shown in theaters.
