Eagle Eye

“Eagle Eye” is a race-against-time thriller starring Shia LaBeouf, Michelle Monaghan, Rosario Dawson, Anthony Mackie and Billy Bob Thornton. Jerry Shaw (LaBeouf) and Rachel Holloman (Monaghan) are two strangers thrown together by a mysterious phone call from a woman they have never met. Threatening their lives and family, she pushes Jerry and Rachel into a series of increasingly dangerous situations – using the technology of everyday life to track and control their every move. As the situation escalates, these two ordinary people become the country's most wanted fugitives, who must work together to discover what is really happening – and more importantly, why.

BOX OFFICE BEAT DOWN: ‘Max Payne’ Delivers $18 Million for First Place

Next week continues to be a guessing game for box office pundits across the country. A plethora of films are being released, and all of them will attract a slightly different audience. First up, we have the horror workhorse Saw V, but will Jigsaw be any match against the kids of High School Musical 3: Senior Year? And then there is Clint Eastwood's heavy drama The Changeling, along with Collin Farrell ironing babies in Pride and Glory. Who will be the true winner? I guess you'll just have to wait and find out.

BOX OFFICE BEAT DOWN: ‘Eagle Eye’ Soars to the Top with $29.2 Million

Some people may be suffering from Shai LaBeouf fatigue, as his latest thriller didn’t quite meet its expected quotient. While Eagle Eye soared into the number one spot with $10 million over its competitors, the film only racked in $29.2 million. While this is better than Disturbia’s $22 million opening take, analysts were wrong in thinking that Shai and director D.J. Caruso’s second collaboration together would reach the $40 million mark. Hopefully strong work of mouth will give it the same kind of legs that Disturbia had.

Next week will see the release of Walt Disney’s Beverly Hills Chihuahua, which analysts think will break some fall box office records. Opening against it are the political spoof An American Carol, the drama Flash of Genius, the Simon Pegg comedy How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, and Michael Cera in Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist.

EXCLUSIVE: D.J. Caruso Watches Over ‘Eagle Eye’

Twas the night (afternoon, technically, but whatever) before Comic-Con, the tension was high, but we got to see some of Eagle Eye! While I'll hold off on my yuletide poetic career for now, the above statement was rather true as I and a select group of online journalists were granted a sneak peek at the film the day before the Comic-Con circus started and we also got to have a roundtable-ish (it was in the screening room) chat with director D.J. Caruso and the uber-hot screenwriters Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman. Now that the film is nearing its September 26 release date, I got the chance to speak with D.J. Caruso one-on-one over the phone. Here's what the filmmaker had to say about his new film and much more.

I really enjoyed the footage we saw before Comic-Con.
