New ‘Godzilla’ Movie Coming in 2016 from Toho Japan

Following the success of the stateside Godzilla reboot, which hit theaters this summer, Toho Japan is planning to bring back their iconic franchise with a brand new movie in 2016. This will be the first Toho produced Godzilla movie since 2004's Final Wars. It will mark the 29th Godzilla movie for the studio.

There is no director, cast or budget set yet for the new Godzilla (Toho). Production is set to begin this summer, and the film will be released worldwide. Toho won't be able to match the $200 million budget of the Hollywood blockbuster, but advances in CGI will allow the studio to produce a movie that can stand alongside bigger productions.

‘Godzilla’ Blu-ray and DVD Releases September 16th

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced that Godzilla will debut on Blu-ray and DVD September 16. For those fans who are heading to Comic-Con 2014 this week, we reported earlier this month that Warner Bros. will have an interactive Godzilla display on the lawn behind Hall H, from 8 AM to 8 PM on every day of the Con.

When the Saturday schedule for Comic-Con 2014 was released over the weekend, one of the big Hall H panels announced was for Legendary Pictures, although no specific titles were revealed. The Wrap reports today that the studio may be using the Hall H stage to surprise fans by unveiling a sequel to Godzilla, while presenting Crimson Peak and As Above, So Below.

Although the Godzilla sequel reveal has not been confirmed, the studio put the project into development back in May, with Gareth Edwards already coming back to direct.
