Jay Baruchel Announces Plans for ‘Goon 2’

http://movieweb.com/person/jay-baruchel/Jay Baruchel has revealed plans for Goon 2, a sequel to Michael Dowse's indie hit comedy film Goon. The actor shared the news with all of his followers on Twitter. He will be writing the sequel with Jesse Chabot.

The original starred Seann William Scott and centered on an ex-bouncer that leads a mediocre semi-pro hockey team to victory. The film was based on a book by Adam Frattasio and Doug Smith titled Goon: The True Story of an Unlikely Journey into Minor League Hockey.

EXCLUSIVE: Seann William Scott and Jay Baruchel Talk ‘Goon’

The sport of hockey isn't one often showcased in American cinema, although it has given us such gems as the 70s comedy Slap Shot and the 2004 drama Miracle. It might sound odd that a movie dubbed Goon is actually a wonderful hybrid of Slap Shot laughs and Miracle inspiration, but it is just that, and then some. Goon is based on the true story of Doug Smith (whose real-life hockey fights you see over the end credits), who literally fought his way through the Canadian minor league hockey system despite the fact that he could hardly skate and shoot... but he could fight. Seann William Scott stars as Doug Glatt, a bouncer with a knack for knocking people out, despite being one of the nicest guys around, who gets the chance of a lifetime to be a hockey enforcer, as he rises through the hockey ranks, one fight at a time.

I had the chance to sit down with Seann William Scott and his co-star Jay Baruchel, who plays Doug's loudmouth best friend Ryan and also co-wrote the film with Evan Goldberg, for an exclusive interview about this fantastic comedy on ice. Take a look at what they had to say.
