Robert Neville (Will Smith) is a brilliant scientist, but even he could not contain the terrible virus that was unstoppable, incurable... and manmade. Somehow immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City... and maybe the world. But he is not alone. He is surrounded by "the Infected"-victims of the plague who have mutated into carnivorous beings who can only exist in the dark and who will devour or infect anyone or anything in their path. For three years, Neville has spent his days scavenging for food and supplies and faithfully sending out radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there. All the while, the Infected lurk in the shadows, watching Neville's every move, waiting for him to make a fatal mistake. Perhaps mankind's last, best hope, Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood. But his blood is also what The Infected hunt, and Neville knows he is outnumbered and quickly running out of time.
Even though (SPOILER ALERT) both Will Smith and his dog died during the epic climax of I Am Legend, Warner Bros. was desperate to get a sequel off the ground due to the movie's overwhelming success. And they went to some pretty insane lengths to justify a story. Sadly, I Am Legend 2 never got off the ground and languished in development Hell for a long period before all involved walked away empty handed. Now, writer/producer Akiva Goldsman has revealed what some of those crazy ideas were.
Akiva Goldsman is out promoting his directorial feature Winter's Tale, which is in theaters this week just in time for Valentine's Day, and he was happy to share some of his failed script ideas for I Am Legend 2 with io9.Read More

We reported two months ago that Warner Bros. was moving forward with a prequel to last year's hit film, I Am Legend. Now it seems that I Am Legend 2 might indeed be a sequel after all... somehow. Ain't It Cool News recently had a scooper email them about the new film, indicating that it might be a sequel after all...Let's start at the beginning. Smith is actually the one who developed the initial story. It took place several years before the original film and there were still pockets of survivors and the story centered around Smith interacting, bonding, and ultimately failing to save them. For months this was the story. Warner's didn't much care for it and Smith and Weiss eventually came on board and all parties agreed to change things up. Well this change is pretty insane, the film is no longer a prequel, it's a f*&^ing sequel!
The site also said that they had never interacted with this scooper before, so this news should be "consumed with a grain of salt." Of course, the studio hasn't commented on the development of I Am Legend 2 and the news is fairly tricky since Will Smith didn't exactly make it out of the first film unscathed...Read More
