BOX OFFICE PREDICTIONS: Can ‘Hop’ Bounce to Victory This Weekend?

The Easter bunny movie you never asked for, Hop, bounces into theaters this weekend just in time for spring. The mixed live-action/animated pairing of Hugh Laurie and James Marsden should get enough parents and their kids to turn out for a weekend win - maybe. The film hasn't been tracking especially well and, along with its generally terrible reviews, is only expected to gross about $22 million (maybe it goes big and does $25M?). The good news for rabbit fans is that the film cost a meager $63 million, so it should recoup its cost relatively easily.

A more intriguing film opening today is the Jake Gyllenhaal thriller Source Code. It's been getting high marks (and includes the lovely Vera Farmiga and the always exceptional Jeffrey Wright) so it should play well with the older crowd and is positioned to take in something in the mid-to-high teens. So let's predict a solid $18 million for this high-concept action movie based on its positive reviews.

EXCLUSIVE: ‘Saw’ May Return in the Future!

We recently spoke to original Saw creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell about their new haunted house thriller Insidious, which is in theaters this Friday. Of course we had to ask them about the continuation of Saw. This past October, Lionsgate gleefully promised that Saw 3D would be the final film in this lucrative horror series. But as we suspected, that may not be true.

In fact, Leigh Whannell is very open to returning to the Saw franchise somewhere down the road, once he gets a political horror comedy made, and a children's fantasy film off the ground first.

EXCLUSIVE: James Wan and Leigh Whannell Talk ‘Insidious’

Director James Wan is most notorious for co-creating the now-legendary slasher franchise Saw with his writing partner/actor Leigh Whannell. Instead of going onto direct that first film's sequel, the Australian duo instead decided to do something very few breakout horror mavens ever attempt in their entire career. They jumped genres to co-write and direct the supernatural murder mystery Dead Silence, which was soon followed by the suspenseful revenge flick Death Sentence, starring Kevin Bacon.

This Friday, James Wan and Leigh Whannell return to their true horror roots with their first ever haunted house thriller Insidious, which is drawing swift comparisons to Poltergeist and The Exorcist. Insidious stars Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne as a married couple who come to believe their house is haunted after their son falls into a deep coma. After fleeing the seemingly ghost-infected dwelling with their lives in tact, they soon discover that it's not the house that is haunted.
