Academy Award® Winner Nicolas Cage (National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Leaving Las Vegas) stars in "Knowing", a gripping action-thriller of global proportions about a professor who stumbles on terrifying predictions about the future—and sets out to prevent them from coming true. His increasingly desperate efforts take him on a heart-pounding race against time until he finds himself facing the ultimate disaster—and the ultimate sacrifice.
Nicolas Cage knows a thing or two about dominating the box office. Despite going up against heavyweights like Julia Roberts and the Apatow All-Stars, his latest thriller Knowing managed to open number one this weekend, pulling in an estimated $24.8 million. This is his third straight number one film after both Bangkok Dangerous and National Treasure: Book of Secrets opened at the top of the charts. Too bad his latest film doesn't leave itself open to a sequel.
Paul Rudd and Jason Segel managed to slide into the second place spot with their latest comedy I Love You, Man. The John Hamburg directed laugher pulled in an estimated $18 million. Not bad for a male-centric romantic comedy. Julia Roberts and Clive Owen trailed behind in third place, with there romantic heist Duplicity earning roughly $14.4 million. It seems that Julia Roberts just doesn't have the star power pull she used to carry.Read More
The end of the world is nigh! And it ain't pretty, as envisioned by bad-assed sci-fi director Alex Proyas (Dark City, I, Robot). Nicolas Cage stars in Knowing as MIT astronomer John Koestler. His son uncovers a coded sheet from a buried time capsule. The code, unfortunately for humanity, predicts every disaster leading to the eventual apocalpyse. Knowing is not for the feint of heart. It has a plane crash that's so horrifyingly realistic, I can't imagine you will ever be able to see this film on an airplane. It also has a separate, quasi-religious storyline that caught me totally by surprise and has been expertly hidden in the trailers.
I had a chance to wax poetic about the philosophical implications of Knowing. Check out our interviews below with Nicolas Cage, the amazing Rose Byrne, and director/writer Alex Proyas.Read More

In 1958, as part of the dedication ceremony for a new elementary school, a group of students are asked to draw their own idealized pictures of the future. These drawings are sealed into a time capsule and stored there for 50 years. One mysterious girl fills her paper with rows of apparently random numbers, which she says are being whispered to her by unseen people. A half-century later, a new generation of students examines the capsule's contents. The girl's cryptic message wind up in the hands of young Caleb Koestler (Chandler Canterbury), but it's Caleb's father, astrophysics professor John Koestler (Nicolas Cage), who makes a startling discovery: The encoded messages predict the dates, death tolls and coordinates of every major disaster of the past 50 years with pinpoint accuracy. As he further unravels the document's secrets, John discovers that it foretells three additional catastrophes. The last of which hints at destruction on a global scale. John's efforts to alert the authorities about the impending catastrophes fall on deaf ears and his fears intensify with the realization that Caleb is somehow connected to the mystery. Enlisting the help of Diana Whelan (Rose Byrne) and Abby (Lara Robinson), the daughter and granddaughter of the prophetic message's author, he embarks on a heart-pounding race against time to prevent the ultimate disaster.
