Shazam! does not yet have a director attached. Darren Lemke, who worked on Jack the Giant Slayer, Turbo and Goosebumps, is currently drafting a screenplay. While Shazam isn't cast at this time, it also isn't known if the same actor will portray Billy Batson, with effects similar to those seen in Captain America: The First Avenger, or if two actors will be taking on the role. We've got some time before we find out.

Shazam! comes to theaters April 5th, 2019.

‘Shazam’: Will the Rock's Black Adam Join ‘Justice League’?

‘Shazam’: Will the Rock's Black Adam Join ‘Justice League’?

Dwayne Johnson is a man who constantly has something on his plate, and his schedule for 2015 and 2016 is stacked. But that doesn't mean he won't find time to join the DC Movie Universe a few years early. While we're not supposed to see the man otherwise known as The Rock on the big screen as Black Adam in Shazam! until 2019, there's a chance he might suit up before then. Speaking with IGN, he teases that he may join Justice League Part 1, which will be in theaters summer 2017. This would be two years before he is actually supposed to appear in his own movie. Though, in a later tweet, he makes the statement that he'd rather fight this iconic team of superheroes rather than join them.

During his latest interview, which he conducted while promoting his upcoming sequel Furious 7, he offers some background on Black Adam, and teases his origins as a slave. He then goes onto hint that we may see him as part of the DC Comics family sooner than expected. About whether or not there is a chance he will join the Justice League, he says:I think so, and I think you always want to leave that creatively open, that he could join the Justice League and I think... that's the fun part of creating this character right now and everybody involved, from the studio, from New Line, to Warner Bros as well, to the writer, our producing partners. You want to... you definitely want to engage in his heroic side, but that has to be earned and with the mythology of Black Adam starting off as a slave, because when you start off as a slave, just inherently, there's things in your DNA that piss you off. And that's the bottomline, so I think we have to respect and pay homage to the true mythology and then the heroic side will come down the line, but I think it's important and we all feel it's important and I believe the fans at IGN feel it's important to make sure the homage is paid at the beginning because then you have a stronger foundation to stand on, and so he will become an anti-hero, but at first... daddy's got to go to work.

The actor also said that he doesn't known who will play the title character quite yet, but if the script is progressing faster than expected, we could possibly hear some casting news very soon. Darren Lemke, whose writing credits include Jack the Giant Slayer, Turbo, Beasts of Burden and Goosebumps, is currently working on the script, although no director is attached yet. The story follows a teenager named Billy Batson, who transforms into the superhero Shazam! every time he says that name. Would you like to see Shazam! hit theaters before 2019? ‘Shazam’ Is Part of DC's ‘Justice League’ Movie Universe

For fans who were hoping to see a DC Cinematic Universe similar to what they've seen from other publishers, one that included super heroes other than Superman or Batman, there didn't seem to be a lot to talk about.

That changed on October 15, 2014, when Warner Bros. revealed a full slate of ten DC Entertainment feature films all set within the same universe.

‘Shazam’: Dwayne Johnson Says Black Adam Is Ruthless

Since 2007, when Get Smart was in production at Warner Bros., Dwayne Johnson has been teasing his role in Shazam! For a while, he didn't know if he was playing the hero of the movie, or the villian. And then there was a short period where he wasn't sure if the movie was happening at all. Now that Warner Bros. has confirmed Shazam! as part of their upcoming DC universe slate, he is fully prepared to pull out all the stops as Black Adam, and offered an update on his transformation into this bad guy turned 'sort of good'.

Shazam! won't be in theaters until 2019. That is still four years away. But that isn't stopping Dwayne Johnson from preparing for his role as Black Adam. And its obviously been on his mind for the past seven years. By the time we see him on screen in those black and gold tights, he will have spent the better part of 12 years preparing to take on this iconic DC comics character. That's a lot of time to get it right.
