Based on the classic video game from Taito. "Space Invaders" was designed by Tomohiro Nishikado and released in 1978. The game was later licensed for production in the United States by Midway.
Just seven months after Warner Bros. picked up the long-gestating video game adaptation Space Invaders, the studio has brought on screenwriter Daniel Kunka (12 Rounds) to write the screenplay. No story details have been released, but Daniel Kunka seems like a prime candidate to craft a story based on a video game with no narrative. The writer landed on The Black List last year with his screenplay entitled Yellowstone Falls, a 52-page, dialogue-free script that follows a mother wolf who must defend her cubs against mutated humans, in the aftermath of an apocalyptic event.
Tory Tunnell (Trumbo) and Joby Harold (Edge of Tomorrow) will produce through their Weed Road Pictures company, with Akiva Goldsman (Winter's Tale) slated to executive produce. Warner Bros. has acquired the long-gestating video game adaptation Space Invaders, and are ready to bring this 80s arcade classic to the big screen with I Am Legend writer and producer Akiva Goldsman.
