Just a few weeks after Warner Bros. pushed The Conjuring 2 into the year 2016, the studio has handed out a June 10, 2016 release date. The horror sequel will be going up against another follow-up, Lionsgate's Now You See Me 2, along with Sony's video game adaptation Uncharted.
The Conjuring director James Wan is set to return for the sequel, announced just hours after the studio pushed the sequel out of its original October 23, 2015 release date. The story will continue the ghost-hunting adventures of paranormal investigators Ed Warren and Lorraine Warren, with Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga expected to reprise those roles from the original.Read More
If you were holding out hope that director James Wan would return for a new Saw movie after he got done with Fast & Furious 7, we're sorry to tell you it's not happening. Not yet anyway. The creator of that infamous horror franchise, Wan will instead take on a sequel to his 2013 horror hit with The Conjuring 2.
James Wan has signed a two-part deal with New Line Cinema. Production is set to begin on The Conjuring 2 next summer. He also made a first-look producing deal with the studio. The reason The Conjuring 2 was moved to 2016 was so that the director would have time to promote Fast & Furious 7, which he recently finished and will be in theaters April 3, 2015. Just hours after handing out release dates for Entourage, Inherent Vice and The Intern, Warner Bros. has issued new dates for The Conjuring 2 (October 23, 2015), Mean Moms (May 8, 2015), How to Be Single (February 12, 2016) and an untitled horror project (October 3, 2014), which may be The Conjuring spin-off Annabelle.
The Conjuring 2 doesn't have any direct competition as of yet, but it debuts just one week after Guillermo del Toro's Crimson Peak. The Conjuring writers Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes signed on to write the script in July, although it isn't known if James Wan will be back to direct, or if Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson will return to star.Read More
