The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands. Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum's "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities... A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

At this time of year, there are always numerous Top 10 lists from various critics, announcing what their favorites of the past 12 months are. However, there is one Top 10 that no movie wants to be on, the Most Pirated Films of the Year list. Torrent Freak has compiled the data from BitTorrent networks, revealing that Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has been pirated the most out of any film this year with 8.4 million downloads. Check out the Top 10, which includes the number of downloads and worldwide box office figures.

Despite the massive amount of illegal downloads, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey still didn't surpass last year's surprise winner, the party comedy Project X, which was downloaded 8.72 million times.
