"Its weird because Battle Royale, is one of my fav films of time, the concept is amazing, and i love Asian Cinema. Also found it quite odd how I wanted to audition and be part of the remake to it, and well potentially here i am in this... The Hunger Games which is the Battle Royale for the next generation, in my opinion" roared the younger brother of Thor, Liam Hemsworth.
The Hunger Games based upon the phenomenal best-selling trilogy by Suzanne Collins sets itself in the dystopian world of Paneem risen from the ruins of what was once, North America. Upon the anticipation of The Hunger Games comes the calling of The Reaping, which is a ballot on how they choose the 2 candidates, a male and a female candidate from each of the 12 districts of Paneem of the ages 12 - 18 to participate in The Hunger Games. Enter the newly just turned 12 years of age, Prim from district 12 chosen for the games but upon sacrificial tribute her older sister, Katniss takes her place within the games as tribute as well Peeta from district 12 is chosen, but will the past and the game itself change everything, because there must be hope because "hope is the only thing stronger than fear...A little hope is effective, a lot of hope is dangerous." But only one can win...THE WORLD WILL BE WATCHING AS THE 74TH ANNUAL HUNGER GAMES BEGINS!
When it comes to defining the acting capability of Suzanne Collin's faithfully adapted to the big screen version of The Hunger Games, there is near no description to words except to describe, except maybe this comes closest to it. "We simply became the characters and essentially we are the characters, and that was the essence we wanted to bring to this" enthusiastically said Jennifer Lawrence unable to contain her excitement. "I've read the entire trilogy like four times altogether, and we have all read it more than once, so in essence the characters are like part of us." "They are like alter-egos now other sides to our persona, due to the strict regime we had, but with the freedom , that Gary gave us" Liam interrupted his co-star.
The chemistry flairs off the screen and the on screen presence between all the characters, they make the utmost duration of their screen-time, while pursuing it to it full capability, but not giving 100% but much more. Jennifer, Liam and Josh become their characters and rip the pages fluently with poetic and vicious force upon the silver screen targeted with a bull-eyes as the entire cast shoots arrows at this faithful adaptation, that is the definition of a spectacle for the fans of the book to feast on and devour like a fat kid loves cake.
"We had this technique before we start shooting for the day, each day to get into character, we would join a circle and do like this group session but be in character. Like how was my character's feelings for Katniss or Gale during the scenes we were shooting, and this got us into character, it was a different but amazing experience, especially working closely with Collins, herself." added Josh Hutcherson.
Gary Ross triumphants with a tour-de-force adaptation thats stays true to the book without alienating the audience the graphic and violent tones of the film while setting the mood for a trilogy that will culminate in something truly epic. He swings tears and emotions, with on-screen visuals and with as little dialogue as possible. Using the scale of the performances, and triumphal emotional score and the intense atmosphere of Collins dystopian future. He brings the world to life, with amazing effort, once you step into the theatre you are transferred into Paneem and the world that Collins has so beautifully created. The violence and the graphic content is the right amount, not over the top and not watered down for a younger audience. The emotion and intensity, is as spot-on as it could be as well as to add more icing on the cake, the character development which is beautifully crafted and near flawless and visually stunning, which is because the author took a big responsibility of personally overseeing and assisting with the screenplay herself, to maintain her vision.
"I personally believe you have to take part, if your baby product is adpated and when writing Hunger Games, i envisioned it could be use in multiple platforms" declared none other than the creator of the Hunger Games books herself, Suzanne Collins. "Because if you just hand it over, without taking part, then your vision is lost, take a look at many adaptations out there and your catch my drift... and i didn't want that. Because i had a film vision and i wanted to see that, and Gary was the person i entrusted with that vision because we just clicked and i knew he was the right guy to bring it all to The Hunger Games."
But upon having the creator of one of the world's best-selling trilogies all glammed up in front of me, camera's flashing as we stood upon the red carpet of The Hunger Games at the o2, while I took notes, i had to ask about the inspiration of the trilogy and where it came from. "Potentially so many people have cited it like a film called Battle Royale, which i had never heard of until after the first book and seeing the reviews, and then i watched and read Takami's book and i see the similarities. But The Hunger Games was essentially born and bred from greek myths, Roman culture and ideology as well as my father's stories of his service in the war, gave me the understanding and the effects that war has not only on an individual but on a population. As well as being inspired but the greatest writer of all time, Shakespeare, which i laid a reference to that within, President Coriolanus and themes from, Julius Caesar, and maybe a dash of Romeo and Juliet." as Collins laid the final words.
Overall The Hunger Games at the moment stands as quite possible one of the films of the year ready to rival all the blockbusters of 2012 and set to be the grand start of a spectacular trilogy faithful to its source. In final words, Liam Hemsworth put it perfectly in this closing quote. "Yeah, of course it was definately in all of our minds, we definately wanted to please the fans, but everyone is going to have their own and different opinion of the books. Everyone has their own imagination. As well we all had to trust in Gary and we were fortunate enough that, Gary is such an amazing director and he had a clear, precise and good vision of what the books should be and his pulled off"
Thus the quote was rudely interrupted by Thor, Chris Hemsworth asking his younger brother " Don't you wonder what it would have been like if Thor took his hammer into the games?" Alas finally joking that 'The Hunger Games will fall when the Avengers Assemble but to make sure you catch and participate in The Hunger Games as its a must-see, the first blockbuster of 2012 as well as that it stars is dashing younger brother.
