The Inhumans

(2013)

The Inhumans have always been one of Marvel’s most enduring oddities. A race of genetic freaks, they live secluded in their island kingdom of Attilan, preferring not to mix with the outside world. Even stranger, their genetic mutations are self-endowed; each Inhuman, as a coming-of-age ritual, endures exposure to the Terrigan Mists, a strange substance that imparts unearthly powers, some extraordinary, some monstrous. But now the kingdom of Attilan is under attack from without and within. Can the Royal Family, led by Black Bolt (who cannot speak for his voice carries the destructive power of an atom bomb) repel the foreign invaders who blast at their outer defense, as well as the internal threat of Black Bolt's brother, Maximus the Mad?

It isn't known if the project is being developed as part of Marvel's Phase Three, which will kick off with Ant-Man in 2015. As far as we know, there is no screenwriter or director attached to The Inhumans. The comic book series, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in the 1960s, followed a group of alien-human hybrids who were given special powers through experiments conducted by the Kree, and went on to form their own society.

Marvel is planning on relaunching The Inhumans comic books with Inhumanity, which sets up the premise that several humans are actual descendants of Inhumans, who could develop super powers later in life, a conceit similar to the mutants in the X-Men franchise. This will lead into Marvel's All-New Marvel NOW! comic book series Inhuman that launches in January.

‘The Inhumans’ Movie Coming from Marvel

After Marvel releases The Avengers, it looks like the studio is gearing up for another superhero film, developing a big screen version of The Inhumans.

The Inhumans were created by alien experiments on primitive homo-sapiens. The alien race behind the experiments, the Kree, abandoned their work and the Inhuman went on to form a society of their own, which is led by the king Black Bolt and his family Medusa, Karnak, Gorgon, Triton, Crystal, Maximus the Mad, and the canine Lockjaw.
