‘The Intouchables’ Remake Lands Director Tom Shadyac

Filmmaker Tom Shadyac is in talks to take the helm on The Intouchables English-language remake for The Weinstein Company. Colin Firth is said to be circling a lead role, but nothing has been solidified at this time. We also reported in November that Silver Linings Playbook star Chris Tucker showed interest in starring as well.

Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) is writing the screenplay that follows an aristocrat who was paralyzed after a hang-gliding accident. Chris Tucker Eyes a Remake of French Comedy ‘The Intouchables’

Silver Linings Playbook returns Chris Tucker to the big screen with his first role in five years. It's been a long wait since 2007's Rush Hour 3, but the comedic actor doesn't plan on taking another long break. He's already eyeing his next project, an American remake of the French comedy The Intouchables, which follows an ex-con (Omar Sy) who takes a job caring for a wealthy quadriplegic (François Cluzet).

The Intouchables has earned over $400 million worldwide, starring François Cluzet and Ceasar award winner Omar Sy. While the black ex-con caters to the wealthy white man in the original, it is not known if the same will hold true for the remake. It is very possible that Chris Tucker will be taking on the role of the injured millionaire now bound to a wheelchair.
