Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. ‘The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes’ Will Restart Production Next Year

Last month, we reported that Constantin Film has halted production on The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones sequel The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes, after the first film's disappointing results at the box office. Today, we have word that the studio is moving forward on the follow-up, with production to resume in 2014.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones earned just over $31 million in its domestic run, taking in $49 million internationally for an $80 million worldwide total. While the movie was budgeted at just $60 million, the studio pumped an estimated $60 million into marketing the fantasy adaptation. The film starred Lily Collins as Clary Fray, who learns she comes from a long line of Shadowhunters, tasked with killing demons and other supernatural creatures.

After the http://movieweb.com/pirates-of-the-caribbean-5-gets-delayed-beyond-summer-2015/news last night that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the fifth film in the franchise, was being delayed, possibly because The Lone Ranger tanked at the box office, we now have confirmation that another sequel is being put on hold for the same reason.

Constantin Films announced yesterday that The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes is suspending production until further notice so that the studio can analyze the results to date in terms of its franchise opener The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, and reposition the series in order to maximize future installments. The sequel was already in production, with newcomer Sigourney Weaver attached to star. Principal photography was to begin soon.

Sigourney Weaver is in negotiations to star in The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes, a follow-up to next month's fantasy adaptation The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

The movies are based on the fantasy novel series by Cassandra Clare, which follows a young woman named Clary Fray (Lily Collins), who learns that she comes from a long line of Shadowhunters, a group that tracks down and kills demons, vampires, faeries, and other mystical creatures. Sigourney Weaver is portraying the leader of the Shadowhunters, who is on a personal mission to find the man who killed her son. Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower (Jace Wayland) and Aidan Turner (Luke Garroway) are expected to reprise their roles in the sequel, along with several other cast members from The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
