Although Lionsgate has still not issued a release date for their upcoming drama The Railway Man, the studio released a new poster, featuring stars Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman. The film is based on the incredible true story of Eric Lomax (Colin Firth), a British soldier who was captured by the Japanese in World War II. Years later, with the support of his wife Patti (Nicole Kidman), the former POW tracks down the man responsible for his torture (Hiroyuki Sanada), who was also profoundly affected by the war. Nicole Kidman Joins ‘The Railway Man’

Actress Nicole Kidman has joined the cast of Lionsgate's drama The Railway Man, replacing Rachel Weisz. We reported back in November that Rachel Weisz signed on, but she was forced to depart the project due to additional shooting on both The Bourne Legacy and Oz: The Great and Powerful.

The Railway Man is based on Eric Lomax's autobiography, which chronicles his terrifying experiences as a World War II prisoner of war, and his quest to reconcile with one of his captors 30 years later. Colin Firth is playing Eric Lomax, and Nicole Kidman will play his wife, Patti, who helped her husband come to terms with the psychological damage he endured in a Japanese POW camp. Jeremy Irvine will play the younger Eric Lomax during flashback scenes.

Actress Rachel Weisz has joined The Railway Man for Lionsgate and director Jonathan Teplitzky (Burning Man).

The story is based on Eric Lomax's autobiography, which details his capture by Japanese soldiers in World War II, where he was sent to work on the infamous "death railway" in Burma. The story is split between his capture as a young soldier, and his life as an adult who still can't fully grasp the torturous experience.
