Fox has decided to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1975 cult musical and midnight mainstay The Rocky Horror Picture Show with a TV remake. The Rocky Horror Picture Show Event will be a 2-hour special, which is now in development. Original producer Lou Adler is coming back to executive produce alongside Gail Berman and Kenny Ortega, the later of which will direct and choreograph for Fox 21 TV Studios.
The remake has been a long gestating passion project for Berman, who tried to set up the event a second time in 2008 with MTV. That didn't make it to the screen either. This third time should be the charm, though. The Rocky Horror Picture Show Event will remain faithful to the text and score of the original, but is being reimagined visually.Read More
In an attempt to completely remake every single film from the 70s and 80s, 20th Century Fox is now planning to redo one of the biggest cult classics of all time with The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Glee creator Ryan Murphy is being courted to helm this new version of the musical, which is considered the longest running theatrical release in cinematic history.
The original still packs midnight screenings across the country, but that won't stop Fox 2000 from producing a new version for today's younger audiences. Ryan Murphy just finished The Rocky Horror Glee Show episode of Glee, which pays tribute to Jim Sharman's stage and film production centered on a single sexy night spent in the home of sweet transvestite Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Which would make him the perfect candidate to helm this inevitable update.Read More
