‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit?’ Test Footage Released 30 Years Later

Years before Robert Zemeckis directed the revolutionary live-action/animated hybrid Who Framed Roger Rabbit? in 1988, an earlier version was mounted at Walt Disney Studios between 1981 and 1983, which had Darrell Van Citters set to direct. Today, an eight-minute video has been unearthed that shows John Culhane taking viewers behind-the-scenes of this unmade version, which featured Paul Reubens as the voice of Roger Rabbit and Russi Taylor as the voice of Jessica Rabbit.

The video also shows a number of concept art images, that show how vastly different the earlier versions of these characters were, and we have a few split-screen photos with the 1981-1983 artwork next to the finished characters from the 1988 film. ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit?’ Blu-ray Debuts March 12th, 2013

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment is releasing Who Framed Roger Rabbit? on Blu-ray March 12, 2013. The studio is also releasing two-packs featuring The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Hunchback of Notre Dame II, Mulan and Mulan II and Brother Bear and Brother Bear 2 on the same date. ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit?’ Sequel to Feature Motion Capture

It was recently announced that director Robert Zemeckis was moving forward with a sequel to his animated classic, and now it seems he'll be implementing new technology into the sequel. According to MTV Movies Blog, director Robert Zemeckis revealed that his sequel to Who Framed Roger Rabbit? will feature motion-capture technology in the sequel.During a recent interview with MTV News' Josh Horowitz, Zemeckis made his clearest statement yet that he'll use mo-cap for the human actors and that the movie will be partly in 3-D.

"All the other characters that [the cartoons] would sort of have fun with would be magnificent in performance capture technology," he explained.

More than 20 years after a famed animated rabbit hit the silver screen, we now have word that he may be sequelized in the near future. MTV recently spoke to director Robert Zemeckis, who was promoting his new film Disney's a Christmas Carol, and he revealed that a sequel to Who Framed Roger Rabbit? is in development.
