It's another good vs. evil showdown between Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins), in hiding in Florence after getting himself out of jail free at the end of The Silence of the Lambs, and FBI Special Agent Clarice Starling (Julianne Moore), in disgrace in D.C. after a botched shootout. Also after Lecter are his only surviving victim, deformed zillionaire Mason Verger (an uncredited and unrecognizable Gary Oldman), and a mercenary Italian detective (Giancarlo Giannini); also after Clarice is her brainy FBI boss (Ray Liotta). By the time this second chapter of their adventures is over, Hannibal and Clarice find themselves in places you've never seen in a movie before.

    Darren Silverman (Jason Biggs), Wayne Le Fessier (Steve Zahn) and J.D. McNugent (Jack Black) have been best friends since the fifth grade. Now, enter Judith (Amanda Peet), a great-looking but cold-hearted and manipulative psychiatrist who digs her claws into Darren, snatches him from the friendship and breaks up their band.

    J.D. and Wayne try everything they can to free Wayne from Judith, including reuniting him wiht his high-school love, Sandy (Amanda Detmer), who is planning to become a nun. Finally, the duo kidnap Judith and fake her death, leaving Darren free to fall for Sandy. Judith doesn't stay "dead", though, and escapes to regain control over Darren. In a last-ditch effort, J.D. and Wayne recruit Neil Diamond, Darren's hero, to break up Darren and Judith's wedding and save Silverman.

But on the night Stu is to propose to Julie, he is struck down in a freak accident.

    While Stu's body lies comatose - and Julie maintains a constant bedside vigil - his conscious spirit is transported to Downtown, a purgatory-like limbo existing between life and death -- with a carnival landscape populated by mythical gods and creatures who revel in the nightmares of the living.

    Upon his arrival, Stu learns his ominous fate: There's no turning back. And just as things seem like they couldn't get any worse, Stu's alter ego, Monkeybone, springs to life to stir up some trouble. Now, Stu must outwit Death (Whoopi Goldberg) in order to return to the world of the living before the doctors pull the plug on Stu's body. But Monkeybone has hatched his own plot that could thwart Stu's plans...
