Mui works alongside her father at the Fortune Market to help him out of debt, but vending fish isn't the life-long career she plans for herself, and neither do the guys she meets measure up to her criteria for an ideal husband (chief among them the rough-edged Fishman). "Miss" (a foreign word in Hong Kong) seems to encompass her ten years at Fortune Market with its several meanings: (1) n. A young unmarried woman, (2) tr.v. failure to hit or catch, (3) tr.v. feel regret about somebody or something, (4) ~ing. adj. not in the place where it ought to be. With her thirtieth birthday approaching along with the new millennium, time's running out, and for all her determination and efforts to have an extraordinary life, both professionally and romantically, the world seems set to test her patience. In God's Country is a modern day story of slavery. Young women ignored by the police and protected by "freedom of religion" are trapped in polygamous communities scattered throughout North America. Judith Joseph is one of them. Despite being raised under the watchful eyes of "God's Keepers" and knowing no other life, Judith realises she cannot watch her sixteen year old daughter succumb to the same fate she was born into. Desperate, with no other resources and no connections, Judith sets her house on fire and escapes with her five children. Alone, on the "outside", Judith is ill equipped to handle the challenges facing her, but she's determined to build a life. As she struggles to feed her family, Judith's daughter naively runs back to the community they've just escaped. Judith knows that if she doesn't intervene her own daughter will end up married to her former husband. Even knowing she is no match for the powerful men who call themselves prophets, Judith refuses to turn her back on her daughter. This is the story of Judith's remarkable journey. Her heroic escape from the polygamous community is just the beginning... To save her daughter's life she's got to go back.

Within the world of theatre the rehearsal room is a sacred space -- the private domain where boundaries are pushed, risks taken, mistakes made, vulnerabilities exposed and, at its very best, magic created. It's not a place into which the public is often, if ever, invited. Until now; In The Company of Actors features an ensemble of Australia's finest actors, including Cate Blanchett and Hugo Weaving, as they prepare to perform the Sydney Theatre Company's production of Hedda Gabler, at the prestigious Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York. Opening night is just five weeks away and the pressure is on.
