Just released from prison, Rudy Duncan (Ben Affleck) impulsively falls into a case of mistaken identity, posing as his deceased cell-mate, Nick, to make time with Nick's beautiful pen-pal, Ashley (Charlize Theron). Rudy's amorous plans blow up when he discovers that Ashley was double-crossing Nick and now he's caught-up in an armed robbery plan concocted by Ashley's dangerously unstable brother, Gabriel (Gary Sinise), to take-down a casino that Rudy's cell-mate Nick had once worked at.
Now, just as Rudy is beginning his new life, he's caught in a high-velocity avalanche of temptations and surprises that could bury him, unless he can artfully dodge them.
