Following the Mr. Holmes teaser trailer released back in March, Roadside Attractions has released the full trailer for this upcoming drama, which offers a new twist on the world's most famous detective. Ian McKellen stars as Mr. Holmes, who is now retired and, as we can see in this trailer, has some issues with the stories being written about him by his former partner Watson. As Holmes contemplates writing a story of his own, to correct the misconceptions created by Watson, a case from his past begins to haunt him.

The story is set in 1947, where an aging Sherlock Holmes returns from a journey to Japan, where, in search of a rare plant with powerful restorative qualities, he has witnessed the devastation of nuclear warfare. Now, in his remote seaside farmhouse, Holmes faces the end of his days tending to his bees, with only the company of his housekeeper (Laura Linney) and her young son, Roger (Milo Parker). Grappling with the diminishing powers of his mind, Holmes comes to rely upon the boy as he revisits the circumstances of the unsolved case that forced him into retirement, and searches for answers to the mysteries of life and love - before it's too late.

Hattie Morahan, Patrick Kennedy, Hiroyuki Sanada, Roger Allam, Colin Starkey, Philip Davis and Nicholas Rowe co-star in this adaptation of Mitch Cullin's novel "A Slight Trick of the Mind," based on characters created by Arthur Conan Doyle. Bill Condon directs this upcoming drama, which is set for release on July 17 from Roadside Attractions. Check out the new trailer below, and stay tuned for more footage.
