Reshoots are continuing on the Disney+ Ms. Marvel series, which will introduce Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan as one of the youngest new additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and a new image from the set has given the best look yet at the young superhero’s homemade Captain Marvel costume that she will be using for part of the series. With filming ongoing, there are still questions over when exactly the series will air on Disney+, but there is a lot of speculation that it will be sometime in late summer after Moon Knight and supposedly She-Hulk.There have been many rumors about the Ms. Marvel series, with it being suggested that the character will both retain her comic book backstory but also have some changes made to her abilities. While this has not gone down well with some fans, there are many looking forward to the arrival of the series, which is expected to pave the way for The Marvels next year, which will see the return of Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel. The new image gives the first look at Kamala’s homemade helmet, which is designed to look like Captain Marvel’s headpiece, complete with yellow Mohawk. The image was taken during the filming of an action sequence in which Khan is trying to escape a robotic drone, which looks very similar to those used by Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home, that is chasing her and was shared by Cosmic Media, who previously shared images of the Secret Invasion shoot which has also been taking place in Atlanta the last few weeks.

There is very little known about the plot of the Ms. Marvel series at the moment, but it is likely that the main purpose of the series will be to give Kamala Khan a backstory before she joins Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris in The Marvels next year. As with many Marvel shows, Ms. Marvel will give the chance to flesh out the character of Khan in a way that wouldn’t be possible in the movie, so while the focus will be on Ms. Marvel herself, that doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing some familiar Marvel faces which could include Larson and Parris, and potentially even Samuel L. Jackson, who will soon be seen in Secret Invasion and is rumored to appear in The Marvels.

The current reshoots on Ms. Marvel are potentially intended to make some changes to the character of Kamala and her powers following the backlash from fans that she would maybe not have the same range of abilities as her comic book iteration. While this may or may not be the case, it is fairly standard for Marvel projects to undergo reshoots as some shots are reworked, storylines are tightened, and everything is finalized to the usual Marvel standard. Recently the upcoming Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness completed reshoots with only three months to go to the movie’s premiere, so reshoots happening now on Ms. Marvel are very unlikely to have any impact on the release date later in the year.
