While everyone was concerned about Homer and Marge Simpson getting a divorce, a certain other fictional couple was being more discrete about their relationship woes. But today they've made it official. Like so many Hollywood couples before them, Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy have officially called it quits. But don't worry, they still believe they can work together, and we may even see some of their post-break-up tribulations on The Muppets this fall.

All of The Muppets are heading back to television this September, with an all-new reality series focused on the lives of these Jim Henson creations. The comedy is being compared to The Office, and will show us a side of Kermit, Piggy and the rest of the gang that we've never seen before. Including it's two leads jumping back into the dating pond. The news of their break-up comes just as their latest endeavor is about to get off the ground. And while some call it a blatant publicity stunt, others are viewing it as a way to ease America into the fact that they'll be seeing other people (or Muppets) hugging up on our beloved Kermy and Piggy during the course of the show. Here is the full statement from both parties.

After careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling, we have made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship. We will continue to work together on television (The Muppets Tuesdays 8|7c this fall on ABC) and in all media now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity, throughout the universe. However, our personal lives are now distinct and separate, and we will be seeing other people, pigs, frogs, et al. This is our only comment on this private matter...Unless we get the right offer. Thank you for understanding."

While Kermit the Frog claims the statement is from both him and his ex-pigfriend, it's clear that she had him do all the work in writing it himself. The termination of their relationship is effective immediately. The new series will dive into the personal lives and relationships of The Muppets. So while they have no further comment now, it's possible that various parts of their past relationship will float up to the surface, bothering adults probably much more so than the kids.

While the show will most certainly be bringing in a variety of potential love interests for both the frog and the pig, it isn't known which big celebrities they may decide to date. But you know there will be more than a few. Which will expose the sad trend of bestiality in today's Hollywood environment. That aspect has already been explored in the first trailer for The Muppets. Fozzie Bear is indeed in love with a human woman. And has to deal with her parents.

At Comic-Con, it was hinted at that Kermit may be getting a new lover named Denise, but her species remains undetermined at the moment. What do you think? Is this the most devastating Hollywood break-up of all time? Like most celebrity couples, there's always the possibility they they will get back together. They have, after all, been together since the 70s. Here's the statement Kermit the Frog released on his Twitter.
