New Line Developing a ‘Friday the 13th’ Remake

Unlike the original 1980 version, the update will focus on Jason ... who will wear the mask and kill!

Damian Shannon and Mark Swift have been hired to write Friday the 13th, the remake of the horror classic being produced by Platinum Dunes for New Line, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Paramount and MTV Films also are involved with the project.

Paramount released the original Friday the 13th in 1980, making Jason -- the unstoppable hockey mask-wearing killer -- a horror icon, though the serial killer made only a brief appearance in the final frames of the first movie and never killed anyone. Jason didn't even don the famous mask until the third movie.

The remake, however, will focus on Jason -- who will wear the mask and kill -- and keep the famous setting of Crystal Lake.

The writing duo are no strangers to Jason, having penned 2003's Freddy vs. Jason, the killer's last big-screen appearance which grossed more than $82 million domestically.

Friday the 13th was released May 10th, 1980.

Freddy vs. Jason was released August 15th, 2003.

How is this a "remake" I you're using Jason as the focus character!? Mrs. Voorhees, was the killer...couldn't you say the this is just another Friday the 13th film instead?

u should have jason turn out to be a jiant penis in the finel scene. That would be super scary. Seriosuly though u clowns better think this threw Jason is the coolest of the big four for allot of us and I would hate to know I could have done better. Everything has to be perfect.

They better not screw up Jason, like they did with the Michael Myers Halloween Remake.

this could be good. im getting tired of the only thing being made is remakes and tv shows becoming movies though. but ill keep an open mind with this movie though.

The body count begins! Bring it on ... and make sure like the original, that people get sliced-up (only) right after getting naked for some teenage hanky-panky. Just make sure you have the guys taking off their shirts too, before they get hacked. It's only fair!!!
