A couple of weeks ago, Warner Brothers lost their optioned rights to the Conan The Barbarian franchise. According to Variety, Robert E. Howard's classic conqueror is being picked up by New Line Cinema.

The studio will get an 18-month option with one extension. A lot of studios were interested, but New Line was the only company willing to pony up the $1 million for one year rights, especially with the potential writer and actor strikes looming in the distance. Most studios are putting their money towards projects that can be completed before next June.

New Line will be starting the project from scratch, as Warner Brothers owns all of the existing versions of the Conan The Barbarian script at this time.
