Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now less than a week away, with the world premiere coming in days. Today, fans of Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch were given a brand new featurette showcasing the character’s central appearance in the Doctor Strange sequel. Since originally being announced as part of the movie in what was expected to be a small, supporting role, it is now clear that Wanda’s journey from Avengers: Endgame through WandaVision will now culminate in a role the promises to be just as central to the film as Benedict Cumberbatch’s sorcerer.

“I think WandaVision was this journey of her, for the first time, taking her own life into her own hands, and it was fun transitioning from her experience to this movie,” Olsen says in the new video. “It was fun just looking at it from a different perspective.”

Of course, the MCU is now about much more than just cinematic releases, and Multiverse of Madness will incorporate storylines from both WandaVision and Loki. Sam Raimi notes in the featurette that paying off WandaVision’s setup is a big part of this movie. He said:

“We wanted to satisfy WandaVision fans and take them to the next level with a character they love. In the multiverse there are alternate versions of everyone. It gives the characters a unique opportunity to meet themselves… to recognize qualities that they may have been blind to.”

According to Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen gives a “very powerful performance with a very powerful character” in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It is clear why Marvel doesn’t want to let the actress escape MCU just yet. With rumors circulating that Olsen has signed up to a multi-year contract that will potentially include her own solo movie, the journey for Scarlett Witch could just be getting started.

While it is not known exactly where the character will be by the end of this movie, there are already several potential connections that could lead to her next appearance. WandaVision set up various storylines for other characters that Wanda will be a part of in some way, from her children who still exist in another dimension, to White Vision, who now has the memories of his former self, and of course, Agatha Harkness who will be seen again in her own Disney+ series in the not too distant future.

For now, Wanda’s presence is certainly going to be felt in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and we are going to see more sides of her character than ever before. As has been suggested, this will lead to some deep soul-searching for Wanda and there is no telling how it will leave her by the time the final reel rolls. Fans of Elizabeth Olsen’s character have already been taken on a rollercoaster ride since her proper introduction in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and it looks like there is still a lot more to come.
