John Woo is set to direct the big screen adaptation of the comic book
Caliber. According to Variety, the film will be a three-way co-production between Johnny Depp's Infinitum Nihil, Barry Levine's Radical Comics and US-based Lion Rock, which is co-owned by Woo himself.
The comic, which will debut at next week's Comic Con, sets King Arthur and his Knights into the 19th Century. Instead of wearing suits of armor, Arthur and his men will be sporting holsters and six shooters in the Pacific Northwest of old.
Before Woo can start work on this pseudo-western, he will first have to direct the second part of his
Red Cliff series, the first of which opened last week in six Asian territories to an estimated $26 million. Then after he completes that, he will go to work on the romantic period piece
1949. So, it will be a while before a film version of
Caliber actually sees the light of day. That's all the more time for you to acquaint yourself with its paper-paged forefather.
Woo also has two stateside projects in the works,
The Sicilian Clan and
The Divide. At this time, none of these projects have a set start date.
