Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, who wrote Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle and Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo and directed the latter, are planning to write and direct a third installment for Mandate Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The storyline is being kept under wraps, but stars John Cho and Kal Penn are expected to reprise their roles as the ganja-loving duo because Mandate has options on the actors for the third installment.

The first film garnered a cult following, earning $18 million domestically in 2004 and generating more than $30 million in DVD coinage. The sequel, which cost $12 million, earned $14.9 million its opening weekend before topping out at $38 million. Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo is set for release on DVD on Tuesday.

No production date has been set.

Ehh I change my mind about wanting a 3rd one... I say they just REMAKE the first one! It's been long enough, hasn't it?! Ahhh Ha Ha Ha Ha! J/K!

Yea... i believe NPH IS still alive. Check out the DVD this Tuesday when it comes out. He WILL return... i just know it.

And I agree with the absurdary... tone it down. I thought Part 2 was as hilarious as the first. I only stopped laughing when they landed on George Bush's home? Huh? Now THAT was absurd. What a coincidence that they landed on the home of the ONE person in this entire country that can get them out of the mess they were in. Anyway... still laughed my ass off with both movies and am welcoming a third.

I agree with Nyfresh about not making the 3rd one weird... the second one was close to weird but not to much... Maybe tone the 3rd one back down to things that would actually happen.
