Novelist Nic Pizzolatto has been hired to write a remake of John Sturges' classic 1960 action drama The Magnificent Seven for MGM. Tom Cruise will be headlining the film.

The classic follows seven gunslingers, who are tasked to protect a small village in Mexico. The film itself is a remake of Akira Kurosawa's classic Seven Samurai, which starred Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen and Charles Bronson.

The film lead to three sequels, Return of the Magnificent Seven, Guns of the Magnificent Seven and The Magnificent Seven Ride.

No production schedule has been released for this project.
