Nick Robinson, who is currently shooting Universal's Jurassic World, has signed on to star alongside Chloe Moretz in Sony Pictures' The 5th Wave.

We first reported on this project back in April, when Chloe Moretz signed on to star in this adaptation of Rick Yancey's sci-fi novel, which is set in the aftermath of an alien invasion on Earth. Humanity has survived four waves of this alien attack, with The 5th Wave under way. The plot centers on a 16-year-old girl named Cassie Sullivan (Chloe Moretz), who is on the run while trying to save her younger brother.

Nick Robinson plays a boy named Zombie, who Cassie previously had a crush on in school, but is now a ruthless paramilitary leader with numerous alien kills under his belt. Newcomer Alex Roe has also joined the cast as Evan, who may hold the key to defeating the extraterrestrial scourge.

J Blakeson (The Disappearance of Alice Creed) is directing from an adapted screenplay by Susannah Grant (The Soloist). Graham King is producing for GK Films, alongside Material Pictures' Tobey Maguire and Matthew Plouffe. The producers are eyeing a September production start.

Nick Robinson had a breakout role in last year's The Kings of Summer, which caught Steven Spielberg's attention and lead to his casting in Jurassic World.
