Nicolas Cage to Take Over for Kirk Cameron in the ‘Left Behind’ Reboot!

Nicolas Cage is in talks to Star in the Left Behind reboot What do Civil War vampire Nicolas Cage and Christian evangelist Kirk Cameron have in common? Well, if things work out, they will have both played Cameron "Buck" Williams in the Left Behind series.

Nicolas Cage is eyeing the lead in a big screen remake of this Christian-themed end of the world thriller from writers Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins. This will be the first theatrical feature from faith-oriented production company Stoney Lake Entertainment.

With a projected budget of $15 million, this reboot of the series will shoot in early spring with a projected release date of Fall 2013. Samuel Goldwyn Films is releasing the film theatrically.

The story will follow a group of survivors who are left behind after the biblical rapture. The original trilogy became the highest grossing Christian-themed franchise ever produced.

Expect Eric Roberts and Jeffrey Dean Morgan to sign on in the very near future, and lets pray that we at least get a Kirk Cameron cameo somewhere in the film.

Left Behind was released in 2001.

Concept of the apocalypse is always interesting, whether Christian themed, robo themed (Terminator), or otherwise. I probably won't spend money to see this, but I don't begrudge other Christians in doing so.

Agreed, @skywise. We all have our beliefs and we learn to accept them, but as a christian, I'm tired of getting singled out when there are dozens of substantial religious (not that I consider myself religious) denominations out there that don't get a thousandth of the flack about believing in something and someone beyond death. Am I not entitled to an opinion without someone telling me I'm an immature crazy who simply can't handle life without some form of lifeline? Does this happen for all religions or what? I don't preach, I don't protest, I'm a pretty worldly guy. Hell, I don't even go to church but once or twice a year, but as soon as my spiritual views come up I'm rather ostracized by others. I just fail to see how that's justified or any better than judging people based on their skin color.

I'm not a huge fan of the books either, @jonnred, but the first two were nothing like King's "The Stand". How you got that is beyond me, sir.

@gandoff Cage doesn't make the big bucks anymore. And recently he has been doing a lot of low theater releases/direct to DVD movies. For a movie like this he would probably make a few million dollars plus a share of what it makes.

Only way this will be made for 15 million is if the stars get a cut of the films profits. Cage alone would make at least 10 million if not 15 million a film. But then go and blow it on 10 old houses he can't Great actor, but poor money manager..

Nothing religious about Hollywood either, but hey, whatever works

The original with Cameron was atrocious. It was really nothing like the novels...well there were a LOT of them. But it was what it was. If they can do it right (even with this small budget) i would be interested to see these.

I am no hardcore bible beater but I believe what I believe and the Left Behind series was pretty good for what it was.

I think Nic Cage just says yes to everything. Even if its a stupid Christian end of the world franchise that just riped off Stephen Kings the Stand.

Yeah... because Nicholas Cage screams "Christian" to me.
