Nicole Kidman and Judi Dench are in talks to star in Nine, joining the studded cast of Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard and Sophia Loren in Rob Marshall's adaptation of the Tony-winning Broadway musical.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 1982 musical is itself an adaptation of Federico Fellini's autobiographical opus 8 1/2, and revolves around a film director (Bardem) juggling the demands of several women in his life.

Nine follows the life of famous film director Guido Contini as he reaches a creative and personal crisis and has to balance the numerous women in his life, including his wife, his mistress, his film-star muse, his agent and his mother.

The film is tentatively scheduled to begin shooting in September.
