Based on a novel by Thomas Pynchon, the film takes place in Los Angeles during the winter of 1969 and summer of 1970. The story follows pothead private investigator Doc Sportello (Joaquin Phoenix), who begins investigating the disappearance of his ex-lover's husband and real estate mogul, Mickey Wolfman. Owen Wilson's has been confirmed for the role of Coy Harlingen. Paul Thomas Anderson is directing from a script he penned. He is also producing with JoAnne Sellar, Daniel Lupi and John Lesher of his Ghoulardi Film Co.

Production will start later this month.

Inherent Vice was released December 12th, 2014.
