Zach Braff is in final negotiations to join Disney's Oz: The Great and Powerful, directed by Sam Raimi.

The 3D fantasy pic is a prequel to The Wizard of Oz that finds the titular character arriving in the Land of Oz and being treated like a wizard by the colorful locals.

Zach Braff would portray the assistant to Oz, the magician played by James Franco. Mila Kunis will also star alongside Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz, whose character Evanora is an evil witch.

The script is penned by David Lindsay-Abaire.

Oz: The Great and Powerful is scheduled to start production this July in Michigan.
