Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan Return for ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’

Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen returning for X-Men: Days of Future PastLast month, we reported that Bryan Singer has signed on to direct X-Men: Days of Future Past, after Matthew Vaughn dropped out. Today, the filmmaker dropped a bombshell on his Twitter account, confirming that X-Men stars Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are returning as Professor X and Magneto in X-Men: Days of Future Past. He also confirmed that James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult are returning.

Naturally, this revelation poses many questions, such as how will the older Professor X and Magneto exist alongside the younger versions played by James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender? Here's what Bryan Singer said, when asked that very question.

"The movie is called X-Men: Days of Future Past, use your imagination. More to come."

We reported earlier this month that production will begin on X-Men: Days of Future Past in April 2013.

X-Men: Days of Future Past was released May 23rd, 2014.

Wow. This is pretty exciting. I like that Singer now has the power to bring First Class in line with his films. I wonder if he'll try to address continuity errors at all by pulling a Star Trek-like switch that creates a new alternate future so that First Class and the Singer films are actually two separate universes. I wonder also if Singer will ignore The Last Stand like Superman Returns ignored Superman 3 and 4. There was so much done in X3 that would be easier to just pretend never happend than to try to undo or explain around.

Pretty excited to see how this shapes up.

Those two made those roles, so I'm pumped. Still, curious to see how this all plays out.
