According to Dread Central, some news spread throughout the web earlier this week regarding casting news on Phoenix Pictures' The Last Voyage of the Demeter. The film concerns the crew of that fateful ship which brought infamous bloodsucker Count Dracula from Transylvania to England. Val Kilmer and Adrien Brody were reportedly in talks about starring roles, although it was made very clear that they had not signed yet.

This is not the case. According to Demeter screenwriter Bragi Schut who is currently adapting Steve Niles' Criminal Macabre for MGM. Schut says,

"Unfortunately, no truth to the rumor. I know Adrien and I’m sure I’d know if he was interested in the material."

Schut added that Demeter has a new director at the helm. Originally Robert Schwentke (director of the German film Tattoo) was set to direct the picture, now Patrick Tatopoulos will make this film his first directorial effort.

Tatopoulos made a name for himself in the FX industry designing the new Godzilla and most recently creating the lycans and vampires for Len Wiseman's Underworld.
