Paula Abdul has confirmed via Twitter that after eight seasons with American Idol, she is calling it quits with the show.

According to Variety, details were still emerging on this latest impasse in talks with Abdul, who had been involved with some rather public contract negotiations with Fox. Judges Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson were already locked in for season nine, while Kara DioGuardi reupped for her second season on the American Idol panel earlier this week.

According to a statement from FOX, FremantleMedia North America and 19 Entertainment, "Paula Abdul has been an important part of the American Idol family over the last eight seasons and we are saddened that she has decided not to return to the show. While Paula will not be continuing with us, she's a tremendous talent and we wish her the best."

"With sadness in my heart, I've decided not to return to #IDOL," Abdul wrote on her Twitter page. "I'll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all ... being a part of a show that I helped from day 1 become an international phenomenon."
