We have known since October that the hit HBO series Boardwalk Empire is returning for Season 3 later this year, although one actress will not be coming back. Paz de la Huerta has been let go by HBO, with the network declining to pick up her option for Season 3.
Paz de la Huerta played Lucy Danzinger on the series, who started out as the mistress of Steve Buscemi's Nucky Thompson in Season 1. Season 2 saw Lucy shack up with Nelson Van Alden (Michael Shannon), who impregnated her but was left with the child after she mysteriously split town.
We reported last week that Bobby Cannavale signed on as a new series regular in Boardwalk Empire, portraying the gangster Gyp Rosetti, who challenges Nucky Thompson for control over his turf. Other actors such as Michael Pitt, Dabney Coleman, and Aleksa Palladino will not be returning in Season 3 as well.
HBO has not announced when Boardwalk Empire Season 3 will premiere yet, although it will likely debut sometime this fall.
