It seems that Johnny Depp could have a new cast member aboard his upcoming high seas adventure. The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision Blog is reporting that Penelope Cruz is in negotiations to join the cast of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

If Cruz signs on, it was said that she would play the "foil" to Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow. Cruz would also be reunited with her Nine director Rob Marshall, who is directing the new film.

Marshall is directing from a script by Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio. While specifics on the plot haven't been released, it's believed that the film will focus on the Fountain of Youth. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was said to start filming in Hawaii this summer, with a May 20, 2011 release date targeted.
